A group of Kent teenagers has produced a safety DVD in order to highlight the dangers of fire for those living in local accommodation for people with disabilities. The students involved in the film all come from Arc25, a project for teenagers that have been excluded from school. They filmed the short piece for the residents of Jubilee House in Folkestone following an idea by firefighter Justine Grant of Kent Fire and Rescue Service, who at the time was working with the Community Safety Team. Speaking of the project, Justine said: “I wanted to get the teenagers involved in various fire-related projects. The idea of the DVD happened after I held a standard fire safety talk at Jubilee House and I realised the messages weren’t getting across. A personalised copy for each of the residents, with detailed advice seemed an excellent approach. I’m delighted that the youngsters were so enthusiastic about helping to produce it.” Cindy Richards from Jubilee House said: “We have residents here with many different disabilities ranging from blindness to special needs, so the relevance and means of imparting fire safety messages also differs widely from person to person. We’d like to thank Justine, her colleagues at Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Arc25 in taking on such a fantastic project.”
