Kent event to help others improve PDF Print E-mail

Kent played host to 23 other fire and rescue services on March 23 in an event to share ideas and examples of good practice.
Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority – which oversees the way the fire and rescue service is run – was one of only two authorities in England to be assessed as ‘excellent’ by the Audit Commission in 2005. As a result, it was chosen to present a Service Improvement Day with the aim of helping all fire and rescue services to better manage performance, partnership working and external assessment. Representatives from services across the country attended the day along with Communities and Local Government members. The event was organised and opened by the Improvement and Development Agency (I&DeA), which is owned by the Local Government Association. Among those addressing the seminar was Kent’s DCFO Bill Feeley who said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service has undergone some major changes over the past few years and we have worked hard to respond to the demands and needs of the local community. This work was recognised by the Audit Commission and we welcomed the opportunity to share our experiences with fire and rescue services from across the country.”
He continued: “However, we also know that there are further changes ahead and that as a service, we can do even better. An event like this helps us to focus on areas which are succeeding, and those which need developing.”
Other presentations were made by Kent’s Head of Community Safety, John Pereira, who talked about using data to improve service delivery and South Division’s Area Manager Sean Bone-Knell explained the organisation’s role in the Dartford and Gravesham Crime and Disorder Partnership, and how to build an effective partnership.
