The Asian Fire Service Association (AFSA) held its first Conference and Dinner Dance at the Café Royal, in London on April 20, 2007. ‘Multiculturalism – exploring partnerships and boundaries’ was the theme of the afternoon conference. According to AFSA the objective was to debate this issue and create a better understanding, awareness and establish two-way communication between fire and rescue services and community groups focusing on the benefits of building partnerships between the two. The conference included a range of speakers from the BBC, Muslim Council for Britain, the Sikh Human Rights Group and London Fire Brigade. At the conclusion of the conference speakers formed panel for a Q&A session to explore the issues covered during the day. This was the first of such events organised by the AFSA. Much interest was shown in the conference by fire and rescue services nationally, and by community groups. The event was sponsored by Draeger Safety. A full, post conference article will appear in the next issue of FIRE.
