The Chief Fire Officer for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has praised his staff for reducing the number of accidental fire deaths to just one in the year 2006/2007. CFO Brian Fraser highlighted the most noticeable statistic to his personnel following the end of year report. He said: “In 2006/2007 South Wales Fire and Rescue Service lost just one person in a fire-related accident in the home. There is no doubt that this incident was very tragic and a sad loss and our sympathies are with the family concerned. “However, I’d like point out the At least 62 UK fire protection firms are prime targets for a takeover and another 86 could be sold off by their parent companies, according to a new report by independent business analysts Plimsoll Publishing. At the other end of the scaletremendous achievement by all who work for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in reducing the number of preventable fire deaths to just one. “Just ten years ago the South Wales area lost 26 people to fire in just one year, so as you can see, with the remarkable dedication and team effort from staff, we’ve been able to prevent many possible deaths over the years.” Accidental fire deaths across the UK have been falling in recent years, but there are few fire and rescue services in the UK which have only incurred one accidental fire death in the last year. are 36 major companies that are expanding rapidly, largely through acquisitions, and 105 ‘predators’ who are using the misfortune of others to clean up in the market. Plimsoll’s senior analyst, David Pattison, said: “The 62 takeover targets we have identified generally have a similar profile – they are privately owned, are in financial difficulty and have owners who are approaching retirement. Any firm in this position should be listening to the warning bells, because its potential selling price will be in the bargain basement. The other 86 distressed companies are operating as divisions of larger parents. I’m fairly certain that conversations are going on behind closed doors about their future.” Plimsoll’s brand new VIBE analysis of the fire protection industry paints a clear picture of each company in the market.
