South Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at the end of last year that broke out at a single storey, 80 metres by 30 metres building at Glamorgan White Lining, in Tremorfa Cardiff

The fire, which took place around 1800 on November 18, involved 12 lorries and approximately 100 50kg propane cylinders. An unknown quantity of line marking paint and 3,000 litres of fuel oil were also stored at the warehouse. Around 50 per cent of the building collapsed.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service provided several different kinds of equipment, including three hydraulic platform monitors, three ground monitors and four water bowsers which were used in water shuttle. A 200m cordon was set up around the area due to propane cylinders present at the scene and this was enforced for 24 hours. As a result, around 30 homes were evacuated to the local leisure centre in the area. Approximately 65 firefighters from all over South Wales attended the incident.
The collapse of the building made conditions for the fire investigation very difficult, however, the cause was eventually recorded as accidental. Incident Commander, Station Manager Andy Petersen praised firefighters for their professionalism and effectiveness at this large incident. He said: “Over the years I’ve been incident commander at many fires, but during this fire the crews were particularly effective in containing the blaze in potentially very dangerous circumstances.”
