Fire safety education programme launched PDF Print E-mail
Firebrake Wales has launched the new fire safety educational programme for Key Stage 2 with South Wales Fire and Rescue CFO Brian Fraser and the children of Ysgol Gynradd Casnewydd. Following the success of Tanni, the character that helps children seven and under learn about fire safety the fire and rescue services of Wales are now launching the next stage to their bilingual education programmes and materials funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
The Key Stage 2 programme delivers a personal safety message which includes family escape plans, the importance of smoke alarms and how to stay safe from fire. This has been designed around the requirements of the Personal Social Education (PSE) framework for Wales and is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. Dr Brian Gibbons, Minister for Social Justice and Local Government, says: “It is important that every member of the household is aware of fire safety in the home and this programme helps year five pupils to learn those important messages through activities aimed at their age group. It’s a really useful programme which will help keep them and their families safer from fire.” South Wales Fire and Rescue CFO Brian Fraser says: “This programme ensures that children throughout Wales will receive the same key fire safety messages. We want to raise awareness that any school across Wales can request for this programme to be delivered by their local Fire and Rescue Service at their school.”
