Warwickshire improvement notice PDF Print E-mail
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Authority has received an Improvement Notice by the Health and Safety Executive following the Atherstone-on- Stone warehouse fire in November 2007 in which four firefighters died. CFOA President Steve McGuirk has promised  professional support from his association. He stated: ‘CFOA is considering the action taken by the HSE and the wider implications of the Improvement Notice for UK fire and rescue  services. We will work closely with Chief Fire  Officer William Brown and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service to assist them to scrutinise the  issues outlined in the notice. We are in the process of putting an expert team together and clearly CFOA is capitalising on the experience and skills of  our members from across UK fire and rescue services to assist’. CFO McGuirk concluded: ‘Firefighters make decisions in a dynamic environment under very difficult circumstances. The welfare of firefighters is paramount in our planning and operations and we will ensure that we capture the lessons that emerge from this Improvement Notice and that those issues are reflected in our future activities across the Service’.
