Staffs gains Investors in People recognition PDF Print E-mail
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been recognised as an Investor in People in a recent assessment process. The service’s performance across a number of key areas was analysed in a stretching and intensive interview programme by the West Midlands Quality Centre. Just 13 other fire and rescue services in England, Scotland and Wales have received this recognition. The independent assessment took the form of a review of the strategies, policies and procedures that underpin the service’s investment in its staff and the overall objectives and structure of the organisation review. A sample of staff, selected from all stations, departments and teams within the service, were interviewed by the assessor. They were chosen to provide a mix of job roles throughout the organisation and across the various fire stations. Following the interviews the assessor was able to give positive feedback regarding the organisation’s performance in relation to the Investors in People Standard. Comments in the report included: “The initiatives and imagination of firefighters and staff to promote risk reduction and community fire safety is exceptional. “Open, supportive management, which allows the potential of individuals to flourish and has resulted in a feeling of trust within the organisation. “Commitment to long-term development through vocational qualifications. “The communications strategy is much about engagement – with staff, with external partners and with the community. “Elected members are very active and engage with local stations to provide local information on local needs.
“The organisation has established strong links and partnerships within the county to ensure effective contribution to the Local Area Agreement.” The certificate and plaque were presented to Chairman of the Authority, Cllr Derek Davis by the former Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive, Alan Doig, at the full authority meeting.
Former CFO Alan Doig commented: “This is a significant achievement and is proper recognition of the commitment by our staff to support the need to develop the organisation and to effect significant change. This has included a solid investment in training and development, improved communications and a commitment to demonstrating values and recognition across the board. I am excited about the direction of the organisation and with this considerable accolade I have no doubt that the Service can go on to achieve even greater success from its evidently strong position.”
