Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service has launched a new initiative involving faith leaders from across the city of Derby. Working in partnership with the Forum of Faiths for Derby and the Multi-Faith Centre at the University of Derby, fire and rescue service officers hosted the event at Kingsway Fire Station. CFO Brian Tregunna said: “The event was planned to help us strengthen community relationships and promote fire safety across the many diverse communities of Derbyshire.

We consider their support as vital to enable us to work with the vulnerable and hard to reach groups in our community. This in turn can help us to reduce fire deaths, injuries and property loss and make people’s homes safe from the threat of fire.”

Cllr Paul Smith, Chair of the Fire Authority, said: “The Fire and Rescue Service has identified a number of ‘at risk’ groups and with the assistance of the multifaith leaders we are convinced that we will be able to help these people which will help us in our aim to make Derbyshire a safer place to live, work and visit.” At the event, the invited guests had the opportunity to visit the fire station, talk to firefighters and see the work Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service is doing to make our diverse communities safer. They were also able to watch a practical demonstration of firefighters at work and see the equipment used.
