Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been selected to feature in a book published today, entitled Public Services That Work Volume 2.

Staffordshire is the only fire and rescue service to feature in the book, which includes eight case studies from various public sector organisations. The book focuses on applying the evidence-based 'Vanguard Method' approach to changing and improving the ways in which organisations operate.

The chapter on Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, written by the service's Director of Organisational Development Becci Bryant, details how systems have been changed to improve effectiveness and deliver efficiencies. Some examples of new ways of working include the implementation of a new management structure, the streamlining of data input work and changes in the way performance is measured.

Becci Bryant said: "We are really proud of the hard work we've carried out to improve our organisation and so it was an honour to be asked to contribute a chapter to this book. Whilst making the organisation more effective and efficient, the approach we have taken has still supported our vision of making Staffordshire the safest place to be."

Managing Director of Vanguard Ltd, John Seddon, who provides the foreword for the book said: "Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were asked to feature in this book because of the exemplary work they have carried out to improve their organisation.
