Strathclyde firefighters have extinguished a fire in industrial furnaces containing more than 1,000 gallons of oil.
March 1, fire crews were called at 1703 to the engineering premises of Albion Automotive at South Street in the Scotstoun area of Glasgow. The officer in charge of the crews, from Clydebank, Knightswood and Govan community fire stations, requested supplies of firefighting foam.
Two firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, used a hose to spread a foam blanket over the blaze. Colleagues, meanwhile, blocked off drains to prevent oil running into the sewage system and contaminating water.
At 0945, two fire crews remain at the scene to keep a watching brief while moves are being made to decant what remains of the oil into a tanker. The furnaces occupy a small portion of the Albion Automotive plant which is operating normally this morning.
