ifeWith thousands of members spanning the globe, the IFE is investing substantially in connecting international fire professionals by launching its new website, www.ife.org.uk, this month [May].

IFE CEO Louise Craig said: “The IFE’s world class reputation for offering professional recognition goes back almost 100 years. We are now the largest Awarding Organisation in the fire sector and this year alone we delivered over 7,200 examinations in over 130 centres worldwide.

"The considerable growth in IFE activities and demand for IFE services has provided the investment we needed to modernise our technology. We are extremely proud of this exciting development and very much look forward to www.ife.org.uk becoming the hub for connecting fire expertise worldwide."

The continuing expansion of the IFE has attracted a record amount of activity and interest and the Institution has designed the new website to provide interactive maps that flag the professional body’s global reach across 41 branches. CEO Louise Craig added that "plans are underway to add a further two international branches within the next 12 months".

The new website will provide a 'one-stop-shop for IFE members' through My IFE where they can find information about fire research, reports, consultations, universities, other fire-related organisations, receive online access to the International Fire Professional journal and archives, find opportunities for CPD and discover more about volunteering on technical groups and committees both within the IFE and within our external partners organisations.

The IFE has already established technical special interest groups for Fire Modelling, Heritage, Transport, Fire Investigation and Competency and Ethics, with ideas for new groups on subjects of national and international interest to the fire community being proposed. A dedicated member of IFE staff will support membership forums, access to resources and actively engage with members on what they would like to see in My IFE.

The new website will also provide access to international fire sector vacancies, with the posting of jobs being free of charge to all Affiliate Organisations and access to posted vacancies will be freely available to all IFE members. Online CPD tracking will be offered too, through the IFE’s collaborative working with the Engineering Council.

Further phases of online development are planned for the future, with the implementation of a new dynamic database enabling push-pull technology through the IFE’s website and providing members with a personalised dashboard of contacts and information.
