Kent event highlights timber fire threat
Kent Group, South East Branch held its third CPD event for 2012 on Friday 21st September at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham.
The subject matter for the event was Timber frame construction and Retail premises.
Robin Lancashire from TRADA gave an insight into timber frame construction and outlined current guidance to the 44 delegates in attendance.
This was followed by a presentation from Martin Milner representing the UK Timber Association. Martin described the new fire safety guidance documents for timber frame and their evolution. Ben Whittaker gave a practicing fire engineers perspective to radiation heat calculations and options for assessment.
Following lunch, Roy Bishop (International IFE President) briefed delegates on the intentions for his presidential year and progress at IFE HQ.
The afternoon session started with a thought provoking session from John Greenbank and his experiences of fire risk assessments in pubs. This led into a general discussion regarding best practice with regard to current guidance and the fire safety order.
