Lord Digby Jones hosts panel for Future of Fire Summit
A new event for 2011 has been announced by the Fire Protection Association. The Future of Fire Summit, held in association with the Chief Fire Officers Association, will be held on November 28th-29th at the St John's Hotel, Solihull, Birmingham.
Organisers told FIRE that the event will provide a mix of "excellent networking opportunities" with practical workshop sessions allowing delegates to debate on specific issues for later discussion and comment by a panel of experts, hosted by Lord Digby Jones. A supporting exhibition with a wide range of sponsorship packages is also available for industry manufacturers and service providers.
Following on from the FPA's and CFOA's long-standing association with the UK's Fire Conference, this special event for 2011 will provide discussions and viewpoints that aims to assist in shaping the future framework for fire.
The event will consist of five main themes:
- A new National Framework for the Fire and Rescue Service - Localism, Accountability and Transparency
- A new National Framework for the Fire and Rescue Service - Local and Sector Delivery of National Resilience
- Protection of the Built Environment
- Managing Risk in the Commercial Estate
- Protecting those at Highest Risk.
Key speakers already confirmed for the event include:
- Bob Neill MP, Fire Minister
- Lee Howell, CFOA President
- Ben Lucas, 2020 Public Services Trust
- Lord Digby Jones.

Jonathan O'Neill Managing Director of the Fire Protection Association said "There needs to be urgent recognition by Central Government just how serious the fire risk posed by large timber framed buildings is during their construction phase and Ministers must act now before either someone is seriously injured or lives are lost.''
