Manchester fire crews respond to disturbances
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services worked hard throughout the night to respond to civil disturbances.
Brigade Control received an increased number of calls to incidents and reports of fire following sporadic and isolated pockets of civil disturbance across Greater Manchester.
Incidents have been focused mainly in Salford and Manchester City Centre. A spokesperson told FIRE that fire crews worked closely with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to deal efficiently with fires that have been started deliberately ensuring the safety of fire crews and the public.
Crews have successfully dealt with an incident at Miss Selfridge on Market Street and an incident at Lidl supermarket on Fitzwarren Street in Salford. Crews also had to deal with a derelict property fire in Heywood and we four crews attended a flat fire in Oldham.
FIRE was told that activity was coordinated well with the majority of fires being brought quickly under control and fire crews being redirected to deal with other incidents.
Crews faced very difficult working conditions and as a result of one localised disturbance one of the fire engines has suffered some minor damage to a window.
