The newly formed National Fire Service netball team claimed a 51-48 win over Merseyside Police.

The team set up by Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue's Sarah Baker play friendlies up and down the country against other services including the army, prison officers and RAF, including last week's [15 July] game in Gorton.

Report from local Manchester newspaper, Messenger, said the match had a "great finish after a back-and-forth game, whic featured great shooting from Merseyside's player of the match Michelle Carroll and great defence from the Fire Service captain, Baker (front, second left in pic)".

With women's team sports enjoying a higher profile than ever with Team GB's women footballers set to kick-off the London Olympics action this evening [25 July] against New Zealand in Cardiff, Baker is pleased that the Fire Service Sports and Athletics Association provide the opportunities for firefighters to engage in sports.
