Andrew Thomas has become the new Assistant Chief Fire Officer and Director of Operations for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service after his appointment last week [28 Feb].

Chairman of South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr Tudor Davies announced the appointment after an extensive recruitment process by the Appointments Committee of the Fire and Rescue Authority.

Cllr Davies congratulated ACO Thomas on his new position, saying that he had "worked very hard during his time within the Service, in various posts to contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of the organisations preventative and reactive services."

Reacting to his new position, ACO Thomas said: "I appreciate the support and confidence from Fire and Rescue Authority members and also from my colleagues within SWFRS and I am determined to continue with the good work the Service is already doing”.

"I am proud to serve the communities of South Wales and I am a firm believer that our communities are best served when they are given the right information to help themselves but I also know that when people call 999 they expect, and deserve, the best operational response they can get.

"As such, I will ensure SWFRS continues to have the best equipment, procedures and support available to them, to deliver a safe and effective service to the communities of South Wales."
