South Wales Fire Authority has appointed Huw Jakeway as their new Chief Fire Officer, making permanent the position he took up in December 2011.

Huw has worked his way up through the ranks of Welsh fire services having been DCFO and ACFO for South Wales FRS following a spell in the Welsh Assembly Government as a Policy, Operational & Technical Advisor.

The new chief expressed his delight at being appointed last week [27 Oct] and added: "From my very first day as a Firefighter, I've strived to help make South Wales a safer place to live and work.

"I will continue to do so, and will, of course, ensure that we carry on delivering our front line services in as safe and efficient a way as possible.  I'll do everything I can to help our Firefighters protect the communities they serve, through education and prevention, and will ensure that, when an emergency does occur, they will be able to deliver a first class operational response."

Chairman of SWFRS, Cllr Tudor Davies, said the Authority was confident that Huw was the right choice to lead the Fire and Rescue Service over the coming years.

"Huw will help the South Wales Fire Authority build on its success, and continue its commitment to improving the safety of our communities through the provision of a first class Fire and Rescue Service", he said.
