Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service appoint new Chief Fire & Rescue Officer
The Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Thompson as the new Chief Fire & Rescue Officer for NIFRS.
With over 22 years of experience within the Fire & Rescue Service, most recently as the interim Assistant Chief Fire Officer and Director of Operations, Gary takes up his new post as Chief Fire & Rescue Officer today, Monday 7th November 2016.
Health Minister Michelle O’Neill said: “I welcome the appointment of Gary Thompson as Chief Fire and Rescue Officer for the Fire and Rescue Service. A substantive head of service will provide additional stability for the Fire and Rescue Service going forward. Gary brings with him a wealth of experience and I have no doubt that he will provide the necessary leadership to guide the Fire and Rescue Service through the challenges that lie ahead. I wish Gary every success in his new post.

I am very proud to lead the Fire & Rescue Service and to work with exceptional people – both Operational and Support employees – as we deliver our prevention and emergency response service to protect our community.”
