Nottingham to host European fire conference
Nottinghamshire will play host to the Federation of European Fire Officers' Association conference in 2013, welcoming delegates from more than 20 European countries.
Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service has been chosen to host the three-day conference which hasn't been held in the UK for nearly 15 years.
By bringing together representatives from fire services across Europe, the FEU hope to discuss and develop good practises and innovations in fire safety and services provision.
Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann, who represents the UK Chief Fire Officers' Association on the FEU, emphasised the benefits: "I am proud to be bringing this conference, and my European colleagues, to Nottingham. It is an excellent opportunity to share good practice and new ideas within the profession and to be able to learn from the experiences of others."
The early plans suggest the programme will allow opportunities to showcase Nottingham and the surrounding area, though the majority of the conference will take place at the NFRS headquarters at Highfields Fire Station.
Chair of the Fire Authority, Cllr Darrell Pulk, said: "It's a real feather in our cap to have secured this event, and we will make it a visit they remember, whilst generating extra interest in this part of the East Midlands and supporting the local economy."
