Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that Parliament is being recalled this week in response to the widespread rioting across the UK

Following a meeting of the Government's national emergency committee COBRA, the Prime Minister told reporters outside Downing Street: "We will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain's streets and make them safe for the law-abiding."

The Prime Minister said that over 16,000 police officers will be on the capital's streets and that at least 450 people have been arrested and 69 charged so far. Describing the scenes as "sickening" Mr Cameron said that rioters "will feel the full force of the law."

The Metropolitan Police's Acting Commissioner Tim Godwin said: "We will be out there in ever greater numbers tonight."
