The Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has appointed a new press relations officer to strengthen its message as it continues to broaden its membership and remit to reflect the significant challenges facing the passive fire protection (PFP) sector.
Anna Hayes took on the role of press relations officer following the retirement of Laurie Perkis. Ms Hayes has many years of experience of the fire industry, having previously been Group Publisher for the Fire Protection Association.
ASFP Chief Executive Wilf Butcher says: "I thank Laurie for the dedicated service he has offered the Association over many decades and wish him well in his retirement. Through his company, Initial Contacts, Mr Perkis has been instrumental in establishing the ASFP name and placing essential editorial in all of the key publications in the sector.
"I am pleased to welcome Anna to the ASFP team. Her extensive journalistic skills and knowledge of the fire industry will prove of significant importance to the onward development of the ASFP. Anna will play an important part in conveying the Association's key messages to a wider audience, ensuring that the ASFP's comprehensive technical support reaches all sectors of the industry, from manufacturers and contractors to PFP end-users."
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Hayes declared: "I very much look forward to building on Laurie's achievements and developing new ways to further promote the ASFP. I am excited to join the ASFP at such a pivotal time for the fire industry and am keen to work with all ASFP members to build a yet stronger profile for the Association as it continues to take a lead in promoting a fire safe society."
The ASFP, which brings together manufacturers, contractors and testing/certification bodies, aims to encourage, develop and give guidance on essential standards in PFP. It now offers Affiliate membership, aimed at end-user professionals that have a need to keep abreast of all matters pertinent to passive fire protection technology, regulation, standards and industry guidance.
All members gain access to the ASFP's website, which offers comprehensive technical support to the professional at a number of levels, as well as offering guidance on many of the issues faced in the specification of structural fire protection.
