South Yorkshire's High Sheriff Julie Kenny has praised the work of the county's firefighters on her first visit to SYFRS headquarters.

Ms Kenny met Chief Fire Officer Jamie Courtney before being given a tour of Central fire station and meeting the Red Watch crew last week [6 Nov].

She then met staff in the Control room before a visit to the Training & Development Centre for a tour of the Realistic Fire Training Building (RFTB).

The Royally-appointed local leader said: "I was delighted to be able to visit South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue. The excellent fire station and training facilities are testament to the hard work and dedication of the people who work on the front line and behind the scenes.

"They have all contributed to make South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue a fire service that I, and the local community, can be extremely proud of."

CFO Courtney was delighted to welcome the High Sheriff to the facilities and said it provided an ideal boost to firefighter morale.

"The highlight of the tour was a visit to the Realistic Fire Training Building which is a unique building, both in terms of its state-of-the-art technology and the wide range of training opportunities it offers for our firefighters," he added.
