UK firefighters let down by lack of representation on European standards committees
FIRE Editor Andrew Lynch reports live from the Risk Versus Results Roadshow from the Hilton Hotel, Gatwick, where delegates learned about deficiencies in UK input on standards.
Seminar Chair Dave Matthews launched a stinging attack this morning on poor representation on CEN and ISO standards committees. Communities and Local Government, the Chief Fire Officers Association and the Fire Brigades Union failed to attend recent meetings to develop standards on personal protective equipment.
Mr Matthews said that the Chief Fire Officers Association had suggested that there will be representation in future with Buckinghamshire Chief Fire Officer Mark Jones taking the lead. However, he was highly critical of his former union saying that leaders were more concerned with who the next President of Cuba will be than protection of firefighters.
FIRE will report from the next roadshow at Birmingham City Football Ground on November 2nd where CFO Jones will be speaking.
