UK team still working in Japan - fit and well
The UK team are still working in Kamaishi, which is 30 kilometres north of the base of operations and are only able to work during daylight hours due to a lack of power.
FIRE was told that the team remains fit and well and are coping with the cold conditions. All mobile phone networks are still out. Numerous aftershocks have been experienced; though this has not caused any major concerns.
Expert scientific advice shows that there is no current risk of radiation contamination to the UK International Search and Rescue team, who are deployed more than 130 kilometres away from Fukushima nuclear plant - no abnormal levels of radiation have been detected in the area. The team continue to monitor the situation in conjunction with the US teams and US military that they are deployed with.
