Virtual dementia tour comes to Luton
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service has organised a one-day training event to help the public better understand people living with dementia through a unique interactive experience.
The Virtual Dementia Tour is a scientifically proven method of building a greater understanding of dementia and is being called ‘Your Window into Their World’. The event has been organised with the help of local dementia awareness group Meaningful Education and Virtual Dementia Tour.
“Dementia can sometimes be a topic that people feel uncomfortable speaking about,” says Rigerta Ahmetaj` of Meaningful Education. “It can be very difficult to come to terms with a personal diagnosis or a diagnosis of a relative or friend, and people find it hard to empathise with those with a diagnosis of Dementia, when they have never experienced first-hand the physical and mental challenges facing those with dementia? Now there is a way.”
Meaningful Education will provide discussions and activities on understanding dementia through reminiscences. Elsewhere, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service will offer advice and guidance on fire safety in the home, using their purpose-built Home Safety Centre, all sessions will be interactive.
The event will take place at Luton Community Fire Station on August 19.
