Simon Routh-Jones has been appointed interim Chief Fire Officer for Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The Appointments Panel of Wiltshire and Swindon Fire Authority have met to consider arrangements for the forthcoming vacancy of Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, following the retirement of Andy Goves on March 31.

The Appointments Panel agreed to appoint Deputy Chief Fire Officer Simon Routh-Jones as the interim Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive for a period of six months from April 1, 2011 until September 2011, by which time the Appointments Panel will have concluded arrangements for a permanent appointment to this position.

Chairman of Wiltshire and Swindon Fire Authority, Cllr Brigadier Robert Hall, said: "Simon Routh-Jones will undertake the role of Chief Fire Officer until September 30, 2011, by which time the Appointments Panel will have made a permanent appointment. This is an exciting and challenging time for Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service under the current financial constraints, and we are moving forward with a progressive programme of change that will help us to improve our service to the public."
