chapmanbdsp – our company and work

Our core specialisms in MEP, environmental, fire, vertical transportation and lighting, combine seamlessly to create beautiful places that perform better for people and the planet.

Our truly integrated and holistic design approach has seen us collaborate across 32 countries on iconic schemes, inspiring charity collaborations and smaller niche projects.

Manoel Island, Malta

Our work is international and has included projects in Africa, Malta and the Middle East and our fire team also works closely with local authority, brigades and façade manufactures to find solutions to upcoming regulation changes.

Battersea Power Station

We are currently working on a number of landmark projects like Battersea Power Station, 100 Liverpool Street and Manoel Island and have just completed the London School of Economics new Centre Buildings Redevelopment, an exemplar project offering an innovative façade and natural ventilation solutions.

100 Liverpool Street

We were awarded the Council for Tall Building and Urban Habitat’s 2019 MEP Engineering award for our innovative work on the Britam Tower, a project we also provided fire engineering services for, and in June, another of our projects, Music School, Wimbledon, won a RIBA National Award.

As well as working on outstanding projects, we also use our skills to reach outside our industry and help a diverse range of partnerships with universities and charities.

Our new London headquarters, which has been designed to the highest WELL standard, has also played host to networking events in the last few months, including London Fire Brigade, the BCO, CIBSE and the London Festival of Architecture.

“We provide invaluable technical support and regulatory guidance throughout each project; forming a bridge between the client’s vision, the architectural objectives and the engineering requirements of each building design. Our expert knowledge of buildings and fire, as well as a comprehensive understanding of current legislation, allows us to provide economical and operational fire solutions”

Our people and culture

We employ 220 staff across offices in London, Birmingham, Kent and the UAE and work hard to attract, develop and retain talent.

We hold Investors in People accreditation to silver standard and benefits for employees include 24 days holiday, with an extra day for every full year of service, optical and dental care, private healthcare, pension, annual leisure travel insurance and life assurance.

Our training and development scheme is CIBSE approved and we encourage all staff to strive for chartership and be members of industry organisations.

We have very active social, inclusion and CSR committees, which help organise diverse sporting and monthly staff-social events as well as summer and Christmas parties.

Earlier this year we held our first company ‘wellness week’, arranging for staff to take part in numerous healthy activities and inviting experts into the office to present on aspects of exercise, sleep and nutrition.

Our fire team

Our fire team has grown steadily over the last few years in line with an increase in demand for our expertise and expansion into new areas.

We offer fire engineering and fire risk management services and our expert knowledge and comprehensive understanding of current legislation allows us to provide economical and operational fire solutions.

Fire solutions on a large mixed-use scheme

The company was appointed to offer fire engineering solutions for a large mixed-use scheme in London (see images below). The project provides contemporary homes with shopping, workplaces, galleries, markets, restaurants and pedestrian streets. The scheme also includes the creation of a new public park, community building, residential and hotel buildings and a three level car park as well as a new high street that links commercial and residential assets to a transport hub.

Along with working on landmark projects and developments, our team also has an increasing influence in the wider industry by contributing to research papers and being actively involved in industry bodies.

In the next year we are looking to grow the team and want to work with like-minded people from various backgrounds and industry-related experience.
