Steve Healey recently took over as NFCC Lead for On-Call and will be assisted in the role by ACO Andy Cole, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, whilst Area Manager Gary Ball, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, has volunteered to lead the practitioners’ forum and plans are underway to host a strategic and practitioner workshop where Steve says “existing research will be shared and future work plans agreed”.

Steve has taken on one of the tougher briefs in the FRS as on-call recruitment and retention has been in a state of decline and is realistic, if unfazed, by the task ahead of him as I start by asking, just what is the problem with on-call?
